The classification of styles was first introduced in 1977, and since then was widely adopted by rowers and coaches around the world. Definition of those styles is based on the sequence of activation of the trunk and legs, as well as the amplitude and emphasis in power production. History has seen rowers winning with all of the styles, so it is impossible to define which one is the best. What is important is to find a style that works for your body and type of training. Choose a style with which you feel and can perform the best. And do not worry if your style falls somewhere in between. Pure examples of those styles cannot be seen often and most rowers have a style that lays somewhere between the four extremes.
